Yuba Water Agency crews and contractors have completed improvements to the Dark Day recreation area at New Bullards Bar Reservoir.
The Dark Day boat ramp and overflow parking areas now include 80 single-vehicle parking spaces and 139 spaces for vehicles with trailers. The redesign added 23 single-vehicle parking spaces, 20 spaces for vehicles with trailers and 10 Americans with Disabilities Act compliant parking spaces, four of which can accommodate vehicles with trailers.
Two new restrooms were also installed on both sides of the boat ramp. The old restroom, which was located in the center of the parking lot, was removed to provide more space for parking.
During construction of the project, an old culvert was discovered and required replacement. To ensure proper stormwater drainage, two drop inlets were installed to collect water from the parking lot and convey it to the replaced and existing culverts.
This work is part of Yuba Water’s relicensing process with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to increase public access to the recreation area.
Improvements were constructed at Dark Day between September and December 2020, and the facility has since been reopened to the public.
