While summer has come to an end, work to further enhance outdoor recreation opportunities in the Yuba County foothills has quickly ramped up.
Ten brand new campsites with breathtaking views are nearing completion at Yuba Water Agency’s New Bullards Bar Dam and Reservoir.
The Cottage Creek Campground, located above the dam and Emerald Cove Marina, will include nine public sites and one camp-host site that offer unique views of the Yuba River canyon and New Bullards Bar Reservoir.
The sites will include paved areas for car and recreational vehicle parking, ranging in size from 24 feet- to 50 feet-wide, with additional space for tent and living areas, as well as access to two restroom facilities and water. Most of the campsites will also have the ability to host large groups.
“These new campsites are positioned to provide some of the best views around, while still being just a short walk to the reservoir and marina,” said Yuba Water Senior Hydro Engineer Kyle Morgado, who is managing the project. “I look forward to bringing my family and friends here for some camping next summer.”
Crews are currently working on excavating and leveling the area, which will be followed by construction of the access roads and living areas. Construction is expected to wrap up this fall and the campground will be available for use next summer.
The campground was designed in partnership with local tribal members. The location previously included a public campground, but it was destroyed when a wildfire tore through the area in 2010.
Yuba Water maintains recreational opportunities at New Bullards Bar as part of its Federal Energy Regulatory Commission license to operate the Yuba River Development Project.
